Hope Fuse is a nonprofit, federally tax-exempt organization that is founded to explore and address solutions to the crippling impact of generational poverty in the lives of at-risk youth and overall youth in Rochester, Minnesota. Young people from identified vulnerable populations such as low-income households, minority demographic groups, and fractured family structures face several barriers to success that may have negative implications in their present and future lives. Operating under the belief that the organization can change lives “one story at a time”.

Hope Fuse leans closely on a blend of qualitative and quantitative data to pinpoint a number of issues in our community. As we observe the grave impact of poverty on youth development, job readiness and academic success, we are also clear that some of the older young people in our community (commonly referred to as young adults – aged 15 years old to 21 years old) are slightly less visible. We have found that young adults within this age bracket struggle with house security, transitions into adulthood, and social matriculation after a troubling childhood entrenched within poverty.

Using a 3-pronged approach, Hope Fuse delivers quality guidance that focuses on “whole person” development. Our approaches can all be delivered through onsite /in schoolwork and offsite at the Hope Fuse office.  During the process of working with the individual youth, we provide strength-based assessments that allow us to create customized plans that are evaluated and updated quarterly.

Founded in 2018, Hope Fuse is committed to working long-term with each youth and young adult with a professional mentor and/or case manager. While a bulk of the organization’s services are catered to address the needs of participants as young as 15 years old, the organization also assists with providing resources to affirm housing security for displaced youth aged 16 years old to 21 years old. Hope Fuse provides strategically designed programs that meet the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual needs our youth participants need. It also gives our participants the opportunity to give back to their own communities through volunteer initiatives.

How can we align?

By partnering with Hope Fuse, each organization will receive at least one onsite mentor. This mentor will create goal plans that include a plan of action and monitoring for attendance and  grades. Each student who is assigned to the mentor will have access to the mentor during open hours and can schedule onsite mentoring or classroom mentoring. The mentors will also hold their paraprofessional certificate. Each organization needs will be specific, and goals will be set with Hope Fuse and the organizations leadership teams.

We strive to provide youth with mentors who care and are committed to the vision and mission of the programs. Hope Fuse advocates on behalf of the youth and school system, that parents and family members be active and supportive with every stride during the success of the individual. Hope Fuse guarantees young people that there is someone who cares about them, and we practice assuring youth that they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges by being a consistent adult presence daily.

We will rely heavily on a blend of data to track the progress and the impact of the program on both youth participants and mentors. Student tracking will include quantitative data regarding their academic scores, enumerating the number of jobs they apply to and are invited to interview for, and monitoring the amount of time they are able to devote to studies and their extracurricular activities. Mentors and youth participants will complete surveys throughout their mentoring experience.

We believe that a nonchalant approach to the failing and challenged youth will only stagnate the progress of our community. We believe, therefore, that if the at-risk youths are not helped, the community risks a diminishing culture, property value, and the reputation that Rochester enjoys at present. Hope Fuse helps students with career guidance whether it be post-secondary or going into the military. We also help with goals and expectations, empowerment, self-awareness, and problem-solving skills.
